In this blog, we’ll look at Invisalign Vs. Braces. Is one treatment better than the other? What about the time it takes to get results? What are the advantages and disadvantages?

Braces Are Better Than Ever

Notably, there are some misconceptions about braces. Often, people worry that braces will change their appearance drastically. However, modern braces are much more streamlined than they used to be. Thus, the wire is harder to see, and the brackets can be clear if you choose. On the other hand, you can also choose colors if you prefer.

Due to advances in braces, they are more comfortable than ever. Plus, treatment can take less time than in the past. Generally, braces require one to three years, depending on various factors like age and how much teeth need to move.

Invisalign Vs. Braces

Now, let’s look in more detail at the pros and cons of Invisalign Vs. Braces.

Braces

The first crude form of braces dates back to ancient times. For example, Hippocrates and Aristotle discussed methods for straightening teeth as far back as 500 BC.

However, braces, as we know them, began with the use of adhesive in the 1970s. Then, dentists could bond the teeth to the brackets which hold an archwire. Early braces looked much larger, giving their wearers the dread “metal mouth” look.

Regardless of appearance, braces have always been an effective way to straighten teeth. Over the years, they continuously improved. Now, they look discreet and can rival Invisalign in that department. In particular, clear ceramic braces and lingual braces are two highly-discreet modern braces.

With braces, you do have to be more mindful about what you eat during treatment. However, there are many delicious options.

Invisalign

Invisalign is a series of invisible, removable, and precisely fit clear aligners made just for you with 3D technology.

Critically, the thin aligners fit exactly, which means they are relatively comfortable to wear. Also, they can be taken out during treatment, one of the main differences with braces. Therefore, Invisalign allows you to eat what you like after you take out your aligners.

Notably, there are some foods best avoided with both Invisalign and braces.

Since the aligners come out, you can also brush and floss normally. Once taken out, aligners must be carefully protected and gently cleaned frequently.

Invisalign Improved Over 23 Years

Since its invention in 1997, Invisalign has continued to improve. The aligners became widely used after many years of research, marketing, and development. Today, Invisalign reports that over nine million people have benefitted from treatment.

As Invisalign improved, it has allowed orthodontists to treat more types of smiles. Also, people of all ages can now benefit.

Today, more adults are choosing Invisalign than ever. After putting off care for years, they’ve found out how convenient and effective Invisalign can be.

A Perfect Smile Before You Know It

Although there are some adjustments to both Invisalign and braces, the benefits outweigh the temporary inconvenience. Remember, as you improve your smile, you are improving your health by avoiding oral health concerns. Before you know it, you’ll have a perfect smile to show off for life!

Both treatments can create amazing smiles. Generally, they cost about the same and may take about the same length of time. However, braces may be advisable in more serious cases. Therefore, in those cases, it makes sense treatment could be longer.

Both Invisalign and braces are affordable with payment plans from Lasley Orthodontics. If you have insurance, Lasley Orthodontics will help you file claims and paperwork to maximize benefits.
